The truth is, most search warrants for modern investigations involve far more than warrants did in the 1970’s. Residential search warrants only account for a small percentage of search warrants issued by today’s courts: Cell phones, social media providers, cellular providers, computers, technology companies, and financial institutions are all commonly targeted by search warrants. As such, we’ve created this modern class to teach search warrant writing for new investigators.

A Modern Take on Search Warrants
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is offered as an 16-hour, 2-day course.
This class is for beginning search warrant writers and is designed to introduce them to one of most powerful investigative tools available to California law enforcement officers: Search Warrants.
Think of this class as the standard “search warrant” class that’s been taught to new investigators since the 1970’s, with a modern approach: Not only will students learn the legal requirements applicable to all search warrants, students will deep dive into technical search warrants such as GPS trackers, phone pings, cell site emulators, and other more current investigative strategies.
Attendees will learn the benefits of search warrants through lecture and practical exercises and will leave with all the tools needed to author effective, comprehensive warrants for physical and digital evidence.
Participants will explore search warrants for traditional evidence and contraband from residences and vehicles and modern-day sources of evidence from mobile phone companies, social media services, email, cloud storage, and other internet-based technologies.
Attendees will receive all the search warrant templates and examples needed to immediately begin authoring their own warrants.
